Nowadays, marine litters are one of the biggest challenges facing the international community for the protection of the aquatic ecosystems. Between the types of marine litter, plastics are displaying the highest abundance worldwide. Their production and demand from households for end-of-life plastics grew exponentially the last decades. The wide range of shapes, sizes and impurities in combination with the high capacity for dispersion of the plastic products through the air and the water are responsible for multiple input sources making the management of the issue particularly difficult.
