A historic milestone! With 60 ratifications, the High Seas Treaty is officially set to enter into force in 120 days.

The #HighSeas cover 64% of our #ocean, yet until today only 1% of them were protected.

With the ratification of the Treaty by 60 countries, the Treaty will, for the first time, provide a legal framework to protect marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction, covering nearly half the planet.

But this is only the beginning!

To ensure that the Treaty delivers truly meaningful and equitable protection for our shared ocean, all countries must be onboard for a universal or global ratification.

At the same time, policymakers, civil society, scientists, indigenous people, youth, and the business sector must work together for its effective set up and implementation.
