Event in Athens for the National Wetlands Park of the Ambracian Gulf

Meeting with the mussel farmers

With the aim to prevent and mitigate mussel farming related waste in the Thermaikos Gulf, together with local associations and stakeholders we separately collected and recycled more than 20 tons of plastic mussel farming nets and ropes from Loudias estuary and Axios Delta.

Towards the active involvement of the local stakeholders, the recycling of more quantities of plastic mussel farming nets and the investigation of opportunities for reusing fishing equipment, we organise a meeting with the local stakeholders on the “Prevention and mitigation of fisheries related marine litter in the Thermaikos Gulf”.

The meeting will be held on Monday, October 23rd, 18.00-22.00, in the meeting room of the Municipal Council at the Chalastra Town Hall.

Participatory Workshop in Vonitsa

iSea, Tethys Research Institute, ARCHELON, Hellenic Ornithological Society, University of Patras and the Management Unit of Acheloos Valley and Amvrakikos Gulf Protected Areas, together with local entities and stakeholders, contribute to the effective management of the National Wetlands Park of the Ambracian Gulf.

We invite you to the Participatory Workshop on the 14th of September, 12.00-17.00, ta Vonitsa Hotels, Vonitsa, to jointly prioritize the threats posed to the Ambracian Gulf and plan the future actions to address them together.

As part of the “Know-Participate-Protect the Environment” project, iSea and The Green Tank invite you to a webinar on “Biodiversity: Science and Data” aimed at informing participants about the latest data regarding biodiversity loss.

The webinar is the second from a series of webinars aiming to empower citizens, especially young people, as well as volunteer groups, to be actively involved in environmental governance. The project focuses on three topics: climate crisis, biodiversity loss and plastic pollution, and introductory webinars are organized to provide information on each of the project’s three environmental topics.

The project “ Learn-Participate-Protect the environment” is implemented within the Active citizens fund program, by iSea and its partner The Green Tank.

Active Citizens Fund in Greece is supported through a € 12m grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway as part of the EEA Grants 2014 – 2021. The program aims to develop the sustainability and capacity of the civil society sector in Greece, and to strengthen its role in promoting and safeguarding democratic procedures, active citizenship, and human rights. The Fund Operator for the Active Citizens Fund in Greece is Bodossaki Foundation in consortium with SolidarityNow.

Approval for the implementation of iSea’s educational program regarding aquatic litter by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs.

The educational activities implemented by iSea in all levels, of mainstream  and special education, acquired official  approval by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs

The educational activities aim to inform and raise awareness among students about the issue of marine plastic pollution and its impact, as well as to promote a zero-waste lifestyle.

More than 2000 students from schools across Greece have participated in iSea’s educational activities about aquatic litter during the previous years..

The educational materials and activities created in the context of #zeroplastic, awareness-raising campaign against plastic debris and microplastics in the Greek Seas, are presented and implemented during the school visits.

The educational materials were created with the support of Ocean Care.

 

MARINE ECOMED #3 Project Meeting

In the context of MARINE ECOMED Project, the 3rd meeting was conducted on 27 January in IUAV.

The content and details on the upcoming Long Distance Courses and the Intensive Study Course that will be held in Thessaloniki (Greece) were discussed by the partners of the project.

The MARINE_ECOMED Project is framed to promote research and cooperation within the Mediterranean region in the field of sustainable management of marine and coastal areas, innovative communication and education strategies to support its implementation.

The Project enhances the integration of professional experiences and approaches in sustainable management of marine and coastal areas from non-governmental organizations and academic institutions with the goal to improve the quality of research and education in this multidisciplinary subject.
