Fishing For Litter

Ocean pollution is a matter of concern to all of us. The Fishing For Litter project which is funded by the A.C Laskaridis Charitable Foundation aims to sensitise the fishing industry and thus change the way fishers manage their waste while collecting directly marine litter. Fishing For Litter was piloted during the period of October – December 2019, during which more than 4.5 tons of litter were weighted, collected and recorded by 8 trawl fishers. In 2020 the project continued with the participation of 18 fishing vessels from the ports of Thessaloniki, Kavala, Alexandroupoli, and Volos. More than 17.3 tons of litter were weighted, collected, and recorded during the fishing season of 2020.

The infographics below show the amount of litter collectively collected by the participant’s vessels in each port during the fishing season of 2020.
