Ambracian Gulf (GR)
The Ambracian Gulf is one of the most important and large wetlands in Greece.
It is a semi-enclosed gulf (405 km2) that communicates with the Ionian Sea through a narrow and shallow strip of sea. The rivers flow into the Gulf result in the formation of delta complexes, which include freshwater marshes, wet meadows, seasonally inundated land, lagoons, barrier spits, a significant saltmarsh, and some of the most extensive riparian forest tracts in Greece.
