Beaches are vital spaces for human activity, hosting both recreational activities such as swimming and water sports, as well as professional activities like tourism and fishing. However, they are also one of the main recipients of vast amounts of waste, a fact that has serious ecological, economic, and aesthetic consequences for coastal areas.
The litter that ends up on the shores does not only affect their beauty—it degrades local economies, destroys marine ecosystems, and endangers both wildlife and human health. Today, more than 730 tons of waste end up in the Mediterranean every day, with Greek coasts suffering a significant impact. Over 60% of the waste found on our shores consists of single-use plastics.
The protection of our seas is in all of our hands. Let’s take action now!

A Few Words About the Project
The project, "Sweet Home...Beach, Keep it Clean", was launched in May 2016 with a clear goal: to reduce waste ending up in aquatic ecosystems, highlight the issue, and raise public awareness. Through volunteer participation, the project fosters a sense of environmental responsibility and motivates people of all ages to take action.
Why Participate?
Cleaning a beach is not just an act of caring for the environment—it is a collective experience that promotes volunteerism, strengthens environmental awareness, and, most importantly, has an immediate and positive impact on nature. At the same time, it can be an enjoyable and rewarding activity while also contributing to the collection of valuable data for research purposes.
With the support and participation of everyone, iSea continues to implement the project across Greece, encouraging more and more people to take care of their local environment.

Up to date
To date, more than 100 cleaning and information actions have been implemented throughout Greece. At the same time, since 2017 we are trying to turn the program into the first Zero Waste cleaning campaign in Greece, by replacing all single-use materials with reusable and recyclable materials (plant bags and work gloves) setting an example of good practice. The program aims not only at the involvement of citizens (students, amateur fishermen, businesses, municipal authorities, mass media, etc.) but also at their involvement with the collection of research data in an appropriately formatted recording form.
What Can You Do?
A beach cleanup may seem like a challenging and demanding task, but in reality, it is simple, enjoyable, and incredibly important! Every small effort contributes to a greater impact, protecting the marine environment and keeping our coasts clean and beautiful. Be part of the change!
