Fishing Tourism & Climate Change: Towards Sustainable and Innovative Practices

The project "Fishing Tourism & Climate Change: Towards Sustainable and Innovative Practices", implemented in collaboration with the Panhellenic Association of Fishing Tourism Professional Fishers and the School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering – National Technical University of Athens, aims to empower professional fishers involved in fishing tourism to adopt responsible practices and strengthen their resilience to the impacts of the climate crisis. Another key focus of the project is to raise awareness among fishers and their visitors, with the aim of encouraging their participation in data collection through Citizen Science.

Fishing Tourism

Fishers are the first to notice changes in the marine environment and can identify the areas most affected by certain challenges! That is why, fishing tourism is not only a recreational experience that introduces visitors to traditional fishing and local marine biodiversity, but also an alternative source of income for professional fishers, while helping to reduce fishing pressure on fish stocks. Furthermore, it can be a powerful tool for environmental awareness, bringing visitors into contact with the marine environment and the challenges it faces.
