PRESS RELEASE
Uniting Our Voices for the Amvrakikos Gulf
The Amvrakikos Alliance continues its journey across the Gulf, creating space for dialogue, knowledge and collective action.
The Amvrakikos Alliance continues its presence in the communities surrounding the Amvrakikos Gulf and invites local communities, the scientific community, organisations, stakeholders and all interested citizens to another open event, under the central message:
“Uniting Our Voices for the Amvrakikos Gulf”
On Monday, 7 September, from 17:00 to 20:00, at Hotel Vonitsa in Vonitsa, the Alliance will create an open space for meeting and dialogue about the present and future of one of Greece’s most important and unique ecosystems.
Over the past four years, the Alliance has travelled to different areas around the Amvrakikos Gulf, engaging with local people, organisations, scientists and communities. Each place has its own experiences, knowledge and voice. Yet, they all share a common goal: the protection and sustainable management of the Amvrakikos Gulf.
This year’s event focuses precisely on this collective dimension: the need to hear the diverse voices of the people who live, work, conduct research and are active around the Gulf, while strengthening cooperation for the protection of its unique natural and cultural heritage.
Through presentations, contributions and an open discussion, knowledge and experiences from the region will be shared, the challenges facing the ecosystem will be highlighted, and ways in which scientific knowledge, local communities and relevant authorities can work together to protect it will be explored.
Among other topics, the discussion will focus on:
- the unique ecosystem and biodiversity of the Amvrakikos Gulf;
- the relationship between the Gulf, local communities and their activities;
- the environmental pressures and challenges facing the region;
- the importance of scientific knowledge and cooperation for its effective protection;
- and the role that citizens themselves can play in shaping a sustainable future for the Amvrakikos Gulf.
The event will conclude with an open discussion with the audience, providing space for questions, concerns, experiences and proposals.
Find more about the Amvrakikos Alliance
The Amvrakikos Gulf is one of Greece’s last refuges for large wildlife, supporting important populations of dolphins, dalmatian pelicans, sea turtles, as well as sharks and rays.
The seven organisations that make up the Amvrakikos Alliance, with the support of the Acheloos Valley and Amvrakikos Gulf Protected Areas Management Unit of the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (NECCA), have joined forces with a shared vision of highlighting the unique ecological value and natural and cultural heritage of the Amvrakikos Gulf.
The Alliance’s goal is to promote the more effective management, restoration and protection of the Gulf’s ecosystems and biodiversity through cooperation among the scientific community, organisations and, above all, the people who live around the Gulf.
Uniting our voices for the future of the Amvrakikos Gulf.
