Objectives
The objectives of the project include the mobilisation of the local communities in the voluntary removal of litter items from the coastal areas and the seafloor across Greece, together with the data collection on marine litter of these areas. Before taking action, the local communities and the participant volunteers are also informed about the issue of marine litter pollution and alternative suggestions for the reduction of Single Used Plastics in their everyday lifes.
Description
Procter & Gamble and AB Vassilopoulos joined forces with the environmental organisation iSea since 2018 for cleaner seas and coastlines in Greece.
To achieve this, iSea organises beach and underwater cleanups in collaboration with the local communities and authorities. At the same time, data on marine litter pollution are collected from each area and public informative events are organised. This way, the project significantly contributes to the monitoring of marine litter pollution around the country, the awareness raising of the public about the threats posed on the marine environment and the restoration of marine litter hotspots and ecologically important areas.
