PRESS RELEASE
We act for cleaner seas and coasts in Thermaikos Gulf
The Prosfero Project is back with the purpose of acting for cleaner seas and coasts! This time we are visiting important protected coastal areas of the Thermaikos Gulf, specifically the Axios Delta and Halkidiki. The project is a joint initiative of Procter & Gamble and AB Vassilopoulos, with iSea implementing a series of coastal and underwater cleanups in the area from November 8th to 21st.
The cleanups will kick off with an informative event aiming to raise public awareness about marine pollution and to present the project's objectives. This will be followed by volunteer beach cleanups and at the Epanomi fishing shelter, with the aim of removing marine litter from the coastlines and seabeds of these areas.
The planned activities are:
- Beach clean-up at the fishermen's huts in Chalastra (549108, 22.742231), in the Axios Delta, on Sunday, 8 November 2026, from 10:30 to 12:00.
- Informative event on marine litter and its impacts at Epanomi Central Square (427988, 22.929032), on Friday, 13 November 2026, from 18:00 to 20:00.
- Beach clean-up at Potamos Beach in Epanomi (381097, 22.916630), on Saturday, 14 November 2026, from 10:30 to 12:30.
- Underwater clean-up at the Epanomi fishing shelter (407514, 22.893396), on Sunday, 15 November 2026, from 10:30 to 13:00.
- Beach clean-up at the beach next to the chapel of Agios Nikolaos, at the mouth of the Loudias River (527683, 22.673506)), on Wednesday, 18 November 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00.
- Beach clean-up at the beach in front of Riviera Beach Bar in Angelochori (479127, 22.813144), on Saturday, 21 November 2026, from 10:30 to 12:00.
Since May 2018, 346 cleanups have been carried out, including 196 beach and 150 underwater cleanups. During these activities, more than 100 tonnes of litter have been collected and removed, thanks to the valuable contribution of volunteers and divers.
As part of these efforts, we have also organised 27 informative events, raising awareness among more than 6,700 citizens about marine pollution and the issue of marine litter in Greece, as well as good practices for preventing and reducing waste in our everyday lives.
We would be delighted to have you join our activities, helping protect your local environment and highlighting the importance of active participation in marine conservation.
